There are so many different hiking trails in Hartman Creek State
Park that it's hard to choose which one to try next. In our many
visits to the park, we have hiked them all, some more than others.
We haven't done this particular trail very often, so when we were
hiking it earlier this spring, we noticed a little side trail, and
we followed it.
The trail off the trail is most likely a deer trail, or just a
gap in the thick undergrowth of young pines, and it doesn't go very
far into the woods, but we liked it enough to place a cache here.
When you hunt this cache, you can't be seen from the main trail,
but you can be heard, so practice stealth when you are on this
"secret" trail.
You may be tempted to head down a side trail before you reach
the correct trial, because there are obvious trails trough some
thorns on either side of the trail you will want, especially if you
are approaching from the east. Don't be fooled. If you aren't
ducking into the greenery of the pines, you're not on the trail off
the trail. Also, while the cache itself is winter friendly, and you
can use snowshoes or skis to get to this spot, if there is much
snow on the trail, it will be a long walk. A bike trail pass or a
ski pass is needed if using this trail by those conveyances.
The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to Park
Manager Michael Bergum of the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require
permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a
paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required
information, then submit it to the land manager. The DNR
