Rochester Stratigraphy EduCache
CACHE NOW IS STOCKED WITH A LEARNING ACTIVITY!

This cache is the second in a series of educational GeoCaches that have been placed in the Rochester area for Earth Science students at Dake Junior High and Irondequoit High School. Each cache contains information about local geology and/or natural history and a learning activity. ALTHOUGH THESE CACHES ARE PLACED FOR STUDENT USE, ALL GEOCACHERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN IN ON THE FUN! There are no items placed in the cache for trade, small trackable items are welcome.

This cache will acquaint visitors with the paleozoic sedimentary strata of the Rochester River Gorge at the lower falls of the Genesee River. Enjoy a beautiful walk in an oasis of nature right in the middle of the city of Rochester!

There is a nearby EarthCache, Furnaceville Hematite (GC1GCKF) (visit link) that has some great information to help you with your learning tasks - CHECK IT OUT!

Access to the area is dawn to dusk via the RG&E access road. The cache is located on the east side of the road.

Looked on both sides of the road for a while, but couldn't find it. GPS was bouncing all over thanks to the slope and I didn't want to venture too far uphill (or downhill) while out alone.

Decided to tackle some caches today before the snow comes! we found the cache quickly. we signed the logged quickly. there were muggles going up and down. we were very sutle until we came across a person carrying a gps. turned out to be Chickenelbows & Chewey! they found the cache easily since it was hidden behind our feet. LOL. Chewey actually sniffed it out. snapped a few pics of our cacher friends. TFTH

Easy find since a family of cachers had just found it but didn't have time to put it away before we came along. They did a good job of hiding it behind their feet! TFTC! Chickenelbows & Chewey.
