The cache is hidden near Deer Pass in the Sandia Mountains. Count on at least a 10-mile (round-trip) hike to the cache, with an elevation gain of around 3,000 feet.

The cache is hidden near the intersection of Embudito Trail and the South Crest Trail. There are a number of different trails that you can take to reach this area: South Crest Trail, Embudito Trail, Canoncito Trail, Bart's Trail, Three Gun Spring Trail to Oso Pass then go up Embudito Trail. I hiked up Embudito Trail to hide the cache. See http://www.sandiahiking.com for more information about these trails.

You are in for a very long day's hiking, approximately 10 miles round-trip. Take plenty of water, sunscreen, and snacks.

I hope you enjoy this beautiful area at the southern end of the Sandia Mountains.

Might have just caught sight of a shy deer on the way over from Oso Pass but otherwise no fun wildlife sightings this morning. This is a beautiful area of the Sandias that I had never seen before. TFTC and the reason to explore.

This was our first stop today hiking the Crest Trail end-to-end, about 7:40AM. What a beautiful spot, especially with the tiny round cacti all around the cache site. TFTC

Checked on the cache again on the 21st since my cousin and I were up on top of the mountain again. It's nice to see these old caches in the Sandias!! Everything was in good shape, just as I left it on my last visit. Thanks for placing this cache, ganelo!!

#1849 What a great day for a hike and geocaching. It took me 4 hours to make it to the cache using the Three Gun Spring Trail to Oso Pass, then up the Embudito Trail to the top. This was the 1st time I've hiked 11 miles in 1 day!! The ammo can is kinda rusty but everything is still dry and in good shape. I'm surprised the cache hasn't been found since July of 2007. Thanks for the fun!! SL
