Nuuksion Metsäsissit of Finland has been credited with using 1:20,000 maps to perform coordinate-based location hunting since the early 1980s, predating the advent of present-day Geocaching by nearly two decades. What is not widely known is that another group of men, the Rosicrucians, had been actively hiding and seeking materiel among themselves using a similar system nearly four centuries earlier. It is not known at this time how this secret society was able to achieve this considerable feat given the scope of human knowledge of the day, but it is the prevailing opinion among scholars of this period that the Rosicrucians had devised a novel system built on ancient Ptolemaic principles that combined both periodic alchemy and celestial navigation.
The text below is a scan of an original manuscript page discovered in the papers of my grandfather at the University of Pennsylvania after his untimely death in 1967. Believed to be Rosicrucian in origin, this document was among several that were willed to my mother, who graciously allowed me to inspect and copy them. The text is in the author's own handwriting, and upon close inspection reveals the coordinates to what I believe is the earliest cache in North America. I personally visited this cache nearly three weeks ago. Needless to say, it has been dormant for some time. I am left to assume that had the original hiders maintained a system of ledgers to account for and track this cache, they would have likely archived it many years ago.
When I arrived at the site, I found the cache to be intact and well-preserved, though wholly unsuitable for the modern cache game. Both the original inner and outer cache enclosures (as well as the contents) have therefore been removed and carefully preserved, and will undergo further examination and study at Penn in the coming months. I have replaced the original with a more robust 30-caliber ammunition container that I am certain will prove to be sturdy and weather-resistant.
Both the coordinates and name of the cache (found on both the original cache log as well as at the top of the manuscript page) are the same as in the original. Please be careful after visiting the cache that you replace and camoflage it just as found.
