This is the first Cache in "Wilds of Wanborough" series that starts
and finishes in the lovely village of Lower Wanborough. The village
located in north-east Wiltshire, in southern England, about 3 miles
south-east of the centre of Swindon. This small village has 6 Pubs
and the series starts beteen The Plough and The Harrow!
This cache is a 1/2 Litre Klip Lock box. Turn left after this cache
through the paddock towards #02.
The series is along a 4.5 mile circular route consisting of 17
caches. Roadside parking is available in the village.
Hints assume you walk it in numeric order.
I saw lots of wildlife whilst setting this series, including some
deer and hare. You will also see some wild fruit around the walk
including blackberries, crab apples and sloe berries. You may also
get to do a bit of rock climbing too, all of this in the "Wilds of
Wanborough".
There are several stiles to navigate, dogs will need to be carried
over some of them as there is no way through. Some of the footpaths
appeared not to be used all that much when I set these caches, but
hopefully that is about to change now! I'd wear long trousers if I
were you!
You may also come across cows and some friendly horses but cows can
mostly they can be avoided. At the hamlet of Horpit near the start
of the route, I'd recommend that you walk along the quite lane
rather than through the fields, as this is where you will find some
of the cows.
The last part of the route is along a short stretch of road along
Callas Hill, it doesn't get too busy and it's not too far but
please take care, you will be rewarded with a great view before
dropping back down into the village.
