Pirates' Revenge Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Aushiker: My interest in geocaching has waned to the point I am pulling out of the game. Where possible I would like to see my caches and trackables adopted by another cacher so if you are interested in adopting this cache or coin please contact me. However, caches which require maintenance or appear to have been muggled will be archived. This is one such cache. Lang may yer hum reek! Andrew.

Geocache Description:

This is now the 2nd reincarnation of the old GCM33Z Walking the Plank. This is still a mystery cache but the physical cache is now a 2 litre plastic bucket plastic. Once you have the coordinates you can either walk to the cache (~ 550 metres) or do a bit of a drive/walk (see below) to another interesting spot nearby. When replacing the cache PLEASE take a moment to check your hide. I would like this to last awhile this time ar

When trading items please consider trading up or trading even and leaving items that you would want to find. Trackables (geocoins and travel bugs) are not tradeable items. Please feel free to take them without making a trade, but please leave a note in your log and do log them online.

The given coordinates will take you to the start of the plank you need to walk. The planks are used frequently by local fishers, so you may see some fishing going on or if into fishing, take your own rod.

The cache itself is located relatively close, so no need to drive off into sunset. That said, if you plan on walking to the cache itself please keep in mind you have to cross two busy four lane roads. One has a controlled intersection, but the one at the start of your walk does not. You do need to cross this road to get to the path on the bridge. Maybe not something to do with kids.

Okay on to the cache. You need to solve S32 02.AAA and E115 45.BBB. The following clues will allow you to calculate AAA and BBB.

What you need to do is find the numerals on the nominated pillars, convert those numerals to our counting system and then add them up. Your solution will give you AAA and BBB.

Here we go:

The value of AAA is equal to:

AAA = CDLXXXVII + Pillar #7 + Pillar #14

The value of BBB is equal to:

BBB = CCVI + Pillar #4 + Pillar #12

Points to note:

  • The pillars are counted from the bank end of the walking plank and therefore Pillar #1 is the first pillar on the eastern side. It has XXXIV stamped in it.
  • Each required pillar has a roman numeral stamped into it.
  • To illustrate the maths, CCC = 99 = XXXIII + XXXIII + XXXIII
  • You need to count the pillars yourself and the numerals stamped into them are NOT sequential.

You can check your answers for this cache on Geochecker.com before heading off to find the container.
