Geocache Description:

I found the story of this cave in the reference book on Yamamah written by the historian Abdullah Bin Khamis. It is also told by old men and women of this area to their children. Legend has it that a cannibal or “Solou” family lived in this cave long time ago. They fed on humans who were passing by their cave. Their eating habit was cut short when a man by the name of Bin Khonazian, returning from a hunting trip, stumbled on their cave. They followed him as he fled to his village in Raghaba few miles away to the east. Being a sharp shooter, he killed the family with his old rifle. He was so exhausted with the fight and fell to the ground. His Salouki dog ran to Barrah and brought the villagers for rescue.

The scholar Bin Khamis guesses that this “Solou” might have been of African origin who came to Arabia for pilgrimage but lost theirway in the desert. The descendents of Bin Khonaizan live today to tell the story of their grandfather.

Now to the cache.

The cave is located in the Areid mountain which stands out of the flat plains. You can park your car at N 25 01.094 E 45 41.996
The cave is about 480m from here and is easy walk. It takes about 10-15 minutes of walking to reach the site. The mountain can be reached by 2WD cars but you need to park further away from the mentioned parking location and walk a longer distance.

One final note, the difficulty rating may be over rated and this is because of a possible inaccuracy reading due to shaking of the GPS as we wanted to flee the cannibals.
