This is our first cache, so here goes.
This cache celebrates both San Jose State University - or, as it
was originally known, the California State Normal School and the
new Martin Luther King library nearby. Please go visit the library
while in the area - the California Room on the 5th floor has a
great book dated 1881 on the history of the California Normal
School.
Founded in the 1860s in San Francisco, the Normal School moved
to San Jose in 1871. Having burned to the ground in 1880, it was
rebuilt shortly thereafter.
The posted coordinates should lead you to an interesting
artifact of the early days of the school. There is a nice little
plaza here where you could stop and enjoy the day.
To find the nearby final stage, you'll need to gather a few
facts from the plaque in front of the artifact. You can easily walk
to the final stage in just a couple of minutes.
A = the weight of the artifact in pounds
B = time of day (hour) when the artifact made sound
CCC = A divided by 30
Final cache stage is at N 37 20.CCC, W 121 53.0B0
The final stage is a camo-ed match container.
There is NO need to do anything even remotely destructive to get
this cache. For taller cachers, there is no need to step on the
grass; the cache can be done entirely from sidewalks.
2007 Initial contents are a log and a ProTechCC alien. Bring a
