Geocache Description:

DANGER

In 1961 Hollywood made a film titled “Ring of Fire”. It was filmed in Oregon and was about a small town police officer chasing 3 crooks (two men and one woman) through the forest. In one scene a railroad trestle is burning and collapses while a train is crossing it. This scene was filmed in Grays Harbor, Wa.

In 1939 Simpson Timber Co. built a spectacular two tier high wood railroad trestle over the Wynoochee River to log the land west of there. In 1961 this r.r. spur had been abandoned, so the tracks were relaid. The bridge was blown up for the movie and the trestle, two passenger cars and a 60 ton steam engine collapsed into the river.

The gorge here was too deep and the train too heavy to remove so the passenger cars were cut in two and drug to the side of the river. The engine was upside down and crosswise in the river. They remain there to this day. In summer during low water half of the engine’s wheels are above water.

DANGER DO NOT BRING CHILDREN

This cache is rated a 5 because you should used knotted ropes to get the last 140 feet to the bottom of the gorge to the cache site. There are ropes in place now. I have done it without ropes but don’t recommend it. On your way down look for a small clearing, that is where the ropes start. If you lose your sats try the hints. You are looking for a large ammo can.

If the gate is closed you may walk or bicycle in. It is about 2 to 2 1/2 miles in on a level road that was the old rail road grade.

If you find a decon container hidden on the bottom side of the car you have not found the GEOCACHE. Instead you have found a Terracache. The container is in a high place.
