False Cape Meet & Greet Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Jtmlam59: I was waiting for everyone to log this before I archived, as it seemed that there were a few who hadn't logged it yet. Two weeks is probably enough time to wait. I don't mind attendees logging after the archive date. Thanks!

Geocache Description:

False Cape State Park meet & greet adventure
COME ONE, COME ALL.

***24 MAY @ 12:00 to 1:00PM at posted coordinates!***

Use waypoints for parking to enter the parks or BACK BAY NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE 4005 Sandpiper Road Virginia Beach, Virginia 23456

This event is a Meet & Greet, but with a twist. There are several options of getting to the posted coordinates.

1. You could hike or bike approximately 10+ miles along well maintained trails
2. You could kayak into the Wash Woods boat dock
3. You could take a tram that the park operates
4. You could use a four wheel drive vehicle from Corolla, NC along the beach to the North Carolina - Virginia border and walk the rest of the way to GZ

The tram is a great option for those of you who are not routine cyclist or hikers. The bike ride out here is fun with lots of scenic views. It is a long distance and during hot weather, it will take a lot of effort and water. The tram would allow all cachers the opportunity to get out to see and experience this great park and participate in this event. There are some interesting historical sites. Tram operation does require a reservation and a minimum of ten riders. Check the related link on contact numbers and to get more information on tram operations and reservations. This is not related to the cycling event, so you do not have to participate in that event to participate in this meet & greet.

This event is for all of us who love our wonderful Virginia State parks.

If you are biking or hiking, recommend that you stay in groups as you make your way out to the posted coordinates. There is a fee to get into the Back Bay Wildlife Refuge. There is no fee for False Cape State Park. Past the 9 mile mark there are areas that you'll have to walk your bike due to soft sand

If you have never visited, you are missing a truly beautiful park as you can see from these pictures You will pass these areas as you make your way to the meet & greet site site.

*You will travel these awesome well maintained trails (most of the way)
There is a lot of wildlife to see during your travels!

>Please see the related link for False Cape State Park. You can get trail maps from the entry gate or at the Back Bay Wildlife Refuge visitors center.

Turn on your beadcrumbs

Recommend bring at least one spare inner tube (if cycling), fluids, and a lunch or snacks, and more fluids. Seriously, you'll need to bring more fluids than you think.

Please remember we will likely see lots of wildlife, so bring your smart phones or cameras so you can take some pictures. Also make sure you bring sunscreen, bug/tick spray, a hat with visor, sun glasses (with a retainer so you don't lose them) and PLENTY OF WATER. Food bars and energy bars are also great to have on these type of excursions.

Here are some pictures of the Wash Woods beach and the Wash Woods cemetery area.

WARNING! BOLO for this person. He has been seen in the area and may try to hitch a ride with you. Last word is nobody has picked him up yet and he still may be roaming the area.

OK, if you are new and haven't met Paul, the above isn't real, so no worries. Paul is one of our local cachers well known to the GCHR community. This picture was taken when Paul (2112RUSH) and I were out at False Cape this past fall.
