This is the first cache in our series of eight "Oz" caches on the Kinzua Valley Trail beginning at the Westline Trailhead. The trail is being developed by the Kinzua Valley Trail Club. Currently, it is approximately 2.5 miles. For more information on the trail and the club, go to: http://kinzuavalleytrailclub.org/.
Many thanks to the Kinzua Valley Trail Club for granting permission to place these caches along the trail.
Due to tree coverage, it was hard to get our GPSs to settle. If you have a problem locating the cache with the posted coords, try these: 41 46. 575, 078 46.498. The "Wizard of Oz" is a 1939 musical fantasy film written by Noel Langley based on the 1900 children's fable "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum. The movie is often ranked among the top ten best movies of all time. Its signature song, "Over the Rainbow", sung by the young Judy Garland, has been voted the greatest movie song of all-time by the American Film Institute.
The song is often referred to as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow, however, the actual title of the song is simply, "Over the Rainbow". The lyrics depict a pre-adolescent girl's desire to escape from the "hopeless jumble" of this world, from the sadness of raindrops to the bright new world "over the rainbow". It expresses the childlike faith that Heaven will magically "open a door" to a place where troubles melt like lemon-drops".
Since the age of two as she sat on a blanket with her eyes glued to the television, "The Wizard of Oz" has been one of my daughter's (who is also Curly's niece) favorite films. This series was placed with memories of her enjoying the film and its history (year after year). Now in her 30s, she still enjoys Oz and all it's magic.
Although we couldn't provide you with a yellow brick road for your journey, Curly and I hope you will enjoy the trail and our caches. The series is a combination of micro, small, and regulars.
FTF: A singing blue bird (actually, it is a Blue Jay) - "If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow, why, oh why, can't I."
