Geocache Description:

Welcome to Maplewood State Park. Park permits are required. Please obey all park rules and regulations. This Cache is registered with, and is Placed with permission of the Park Manager of Maplewood State Park.

Maplewood lies on a series of hills near the eastern edge of the flat and level Red River Valley. These hills are part of the Alexandria Moraine, and were deposited during the last ice age. Changes in landscape at the park are as much as 300' in less than a mile. The highest hills in the park approach 1,600 feet. From the top of Hallaway Hill, you will see the Lake Lida Basin, which was formed some 20,000 years ago when the last glacier retreated. Also if you look to the southwest, you can see Inspiration Peak, a favorite spot of Sinclare Lewis. From the parking lot to the top of Hallaway Hill is about 140' enjoy the hike.
