If you are an Adirondack Fan, or Narnian fan, and enjoy long nature hikes, snowmobiling, or snowshoeing, then this is the cache for you. Yes, there is a real Victorian Lamppost!!
Lantern Waste is an easy multicache that begins with one cache that has a MAP of Narnia for you to keep. How-ever, this cache is NOT used for trading objects. The cache's MAP will have instructions to help you find two other caches. Only one of the two caches is used to trade an object and write in a logbook, but don't worry, the other cache has a fun thing for you to do. This 3 mile round-trip hike begins at the Fish Mountain Cemetery along an old state snowmobile trail. Follow the trail till you see the first cache, then enjoy a wild Narnian ADVENTURE. The beginning of the snowmobile trail may be a bit swampy or full of tall grass during spring and summer. There is higher dry ground (to your right) that goes around the mud and grass. Some of the small wooden bridges along the trail may be a bit rotten, so please watch your step. PLEASE, only go as far as the last cache box or beaver's dam. DO NOT CROSS THE STREAM! !!(Private Property)!!
In the late spring & wet summers you WILL need a LOT of bug-spray and maybe a fly-net for your head. Black Fly Season is the worst in the Adirondacks. In the winter, you will need to look out for low branches while snowmobiling. Mud Season (March-early May) is not the best time to find this geocache unless you have high rubber boots and can handle the black flies. I would advise you not to bush-whack from the first cache to the second and third cache. You WILL hit swamp-land and the bugs are not worth it. Stay on the CACHE trail, it's Easier, Safer and Faster. If you do not, you might be kidnapped by some Narnian Outlaws. Just kidding! Bush-whacking is aloud from the third cache to the beaver dam. Follow the northern side of the stream.
If you are a Letterbox Hunter, there is a letterbox inside the mane geocache. It's a square plastic box. For more clues, look up www.letterboxing.org and look up LbNA#: 26777. There is a Logbook, stamp, and inkpad in the letterbox.
Thanks for visiting Narnia and May Aslan Smile Upon Thee.
