Geocache Description:

Wickander #3

Introduction

I spent a great deal of time as a kid roaming the trails around the Hayward Plunge.  I don't think the main trail had a name then, or if it did, I never knew it.  It is now the Wally Wickander Trail. This series will take you from the top of the Wickander Trail down toward the Plunge and into the Plunge park proper.  That is, it will if you start with the #1 Cache - you can, obviously, start with any cache in the series.  Or, you can, of course, start at the bottom and cache your way to the top.

Nice wide shaded trails greet you most of the way along the Wickander Trail. And HAY! no PO!  What little you see can very easily be avoided. This is a fun trail with several creek crossings as you meander your way down the trail along Ward Creek.  This is a great cache series for that HOT day when you don't want to be out on the open trail but are out looking for some caching.

I have worked on this series for about 2 months now, every weekend and several times both Saturday and Sunday together.  Walking this trail many times I have come to know it well.  It is a nice trail mostly in the shade.  You will likely have GPS trouble many times and may even lose reception.  Take your time, hold the GPS up (can you do Statue of Liberty?) and a way from your body and you should have reception return.  I hope you get as much enjoyment out of this cache series as the work I put into it.  Waypoints were taken every time I walked this trail and they were very close every time.

Location Info

This cache is a Standard Cache located along the Wickander Trail.  This cache can be reached from either end of the Trail. There is easy parking at the Hayward Plunge.  Parking at the upper end of the trail is on the street (Campus Drive) at the trail head.  Do not park in the Church parking lot.  There is shady parking on Oaks Dr., a short distance away.

Cache Info

This Cache is part of the Wickander Cache Series.  Cache is free of Poison Oak.  This cache is well camo'd.  This cache is rated as a small, because it is larger than a 35mm film canister.  The cache is well Camo'd.  Cache has a good size log but no pen.  There is a FTF  certificate.  There are no trading items in this cache.

You will find that this is a rather different cache placement.  Please take care to put it back the way you found it as this trail seems to have a regular train of people on it.

This is probably the only cache in the series that you will have to be concerned with being seen so stealth may be an issue here.

Rated by clay jar (3/3)

Special Info

There no need to completely remove the cache - just open and remove the log.

Please replace the cache in the same place and in the same orientation you find it.

1 - A flashlight would be helpful for this whole series.
2 - Please check "Take the Plunge?" cache before running this series.
