Crawfish Springs was the original name of the small town now known as Chickamauga. It is full of Civil War lore and other interesting history, and this cache is located in one of the prettiest spots in the town, the public area called Crawfish Springs Amphitheatre. There are several Civil War historic markers in the park and across the street at the Gorden Lee Mansion (private property.) Bring a picnic, a frisbee, a good book -- very quiet and pleasant area to spend some time!
The original springs were used by Native Americans and Civil War soldiers and the springs are now protected from development here, in a shady little park with huge stately trees, picnic tables and pagodas and benches on each side of the springs and the pond. As you stand by the Crawfish Springs Amphitheatre sign (large wooden sign) facing the pond, the cache is on the right side of the springs below you. Parking is best in the lot to the left of the springs, or across the street. (Note that there is a church across the street; please be mindful of parking spaces marked for church attendees, and be aware of possible Muggle-observation especially on Sunday mornings.)
It is a standard small plastic container, camoflauged.
Original contents are:
Log-sheet and pen.
Magnetic pen
Fishy TB
Beads
It is not in the picnic area at the top of the hill, but a stone's throw away; the picnic tables or pagoda are good spots for unpacking, trading, signing, etc. We checked out the location right after Hurricane Ivan left his mark, and the cache is well above the water-line, even in flood-stage. Enjoy!
