In the Stacks Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

eclecticlibrarian: After consulting with my former colleagues, we agreed that it would be best to archive this cache. No one else would be able to maintain it properly. Thank you to everyone who has hunted for it over the past couple of years!

Geocache Description:

This cache is available 98.5 hrs per week (97 hrs per week in the summer). This cache was inspired by the House of Stories cache at the University of Washington.

This is a multi-stage cache, and the final stage is located inside a building. You will find the coordinates for the building at the posted location. Once you are inside the building, you will need to solve the following clues in order to complete the puzzle and find the cache.

Puzzle: EFGH .IJK LMNP

  1. In the building entrance, locate the attribution plaque for the painting found there. Count the number of letters in the first word of the title of the painting. That number corresponds with a number in the alphabet (ie 1=A, 2=B, etc.), which is letter E in the puzzle.
  2. Go through the double doors towards the computers and turn left. Pass through another set of double doors. Find the people in the boat and count how many there are. (people)*37.5 = FGH
  3. Go back to the lobby and locate the display of candles. The number of candles corresponds to a letter in the alphabet as in clue #1, which is letter I in the puzzle.
  4. Go up three flights and locate the file drawers to the left of the double doors. What is the number on the bottom right drawer? (drawer #)*2 = JK
  5. Go down one flight. Locate the Geologic Map of Washington hanging on a wall. (year modified) + 46 = LMNP
  6. Go to the floor you have not visited and use the clues to locate the cache.
