The west side of the Punkhorn Parklands, 800 acres of conservation
land in Brewster and Harwich, takes you along quiet forest paths
and cranberry bogs. First stage is a micro; final is a
lock-and-lock box with a few trades. No bushwhacking required. Park
near trailhead at N 41 43.143, W 070 06.978 or at lots on Westgate
Rd. Be sure to pull far over so you don't block the road. Mark
where you park! Wear bug spray. Total hike from most direct route
is about 1.4 miles on trails.
The Punkhorn Parklands are one of Cape Cod's hidden treasures,
protecting wildlife habitats including ponds, wooded uplands and
former cranberry bogs. Some private farms still operate along the
Punkhorn boundaries. Brewster has mapped trails in the northern and
central sections, available online at
Punkhorn maps
Read about the area and some other Punkhorn geocaches at
Trail Hound.
This two-stage multi-cache is a fine walk in the woods, all on
established paths. A few short sections of the sandy trail are
steep, so it's not recommended for strollers or bikes, although you
can bike on the dirt roads to the trailhead at the intersection of
Black Duck Cartway and Archie's Cartway. Black Duck Cartway runs
between Cranview Road and Westgate Road in Brewster.

December 19, 2009 by koneko (7977 found) It's been a while since I have been to the Punkhorns - this was a nice excuse to come back. Parked as intended and enjoyed a nice walk to both stages. Cache was a quick find and then it was off to go after 7 more caches in order to clear off the Cape for the third time since 2005.Thanks for the nice addition to the Punkhorn hides!

October 27, 2009 by cali2cc (244 found) We parked a little bit east of the parking coordinates above and ended up taking a nice footpath almost all the way to stage one. Unfortunately, for us, the rest of the hike was on a wide trail on which it seemed a 4-wheeler or ATV had just traveld and made lots of ruts. Not as....what's a good word?....rustic as the footpath but still a beautiful hike today - very yellow and orange! We found stage one pretty quickly - the hint helped tons and also the lack of foilage. For the final, our GPS was jumping a lot and we didn't quite get the hint....then all of a sudden...the answer popped into my head....made us laugh. We bike here all the time and still haven't been on all the trails. TFTC!
