After harvest we stored all of our corn and still had some cobs left. Not knowing what to do with them anymore we brought them to the local sale barn. Every Friday they have livestock auctions there and we thought the cobs would be welcomed by the livestock.
When we arrived we counted many cows. Since we believe in equal sharing we started to divide the cobs:
We divided the total in two equal parts and had one cob left over.
We tried to divide them in three equal parts and had two cobs left over.
So we tried to divide them in four equal parts and had three cobs left.
Even dividing them in five equal parts didn’t work. Now we had four cobs left over.
Frustrated we threw them all in one pile and started over again.
This time we tried to divide them in six equal parts but we had five cobs left.
Dividing them in seven equal parts left us with six cobs.
We were sure that eight equal parts would do the trick, but unfortunately we had seven cobs left over.
Nine equal portions didn’t work either. Now we had eight cobs left.
Almost to the end of our wits we tried 10 equal portions, but we still had nine cobs left.
THIS WAS IT!
We put all of the cobs back in a container and are waiting until someone tells us how many cobs are in this container.
