How Geocaching Works
Cache is located in Grafton's Notch State Park just north of Newry on Rt 26. A rugged climb which is quite steep. It has a lot of different rock formations that are quite interesting to see. Cache is located approximately 20-30 minutes up the Old Speck trail, (depending on your hiking speed. Bring plenty of water on this hike. You will drink a lot as its a 3.8 mile hike one way if you go to the top. This is a State Park and there is a small fee to park.
Here is a hike that will definately test your legs. The hike here is very steep in places so I dont recommend bringing small children on this one. The cache isn't too far up the trail, (half an hour depending on your speed). It is located at about the 2100' level. The summit is about 3 hours away, at least it was for us old slow Mainer's, but the view from the fire tower at the top was fantastic. Top elevation for my GPS was 4185'.
The cache is a standard white tupperware bowl with a blue top. It has the usual trinkets, pencil, logbook, sharpener, bite stick. Take something and leave something, but take the time and hike to the top. Its worth the trip. Please be sure to wear proper hiking shoes. Enjoy........
