Geocache Description:

Cobalt Blue Tarantula (Haplopelma lividum)

My native habitat is mainly Thailand and Burma in Southeast Asia. Our species lives in deep networks of underground burrows. My favourite meal is crickets.

Males are brown in colour and we females are blue. At first glance we may appear to be black. However, in the right light, we’re clearly brilliant blue. Adult leg span is about 5". We’re very self-defensive and therefore not recommended for the beginner collector. We can move with blinding speed and may bite if teased or provoked. However, our bite is typically not much different than the sting of a wasp. Unlike many other tarantulas, we don’t have urticating hairs to kick and harm.

We live such a secluded life we’re affectionately known as ‘the pet hole’. However, clever collectors encourage us to build our burrows right next to the glass of our terrariums. We tend to not throw stones : ).

Remember to take note of the clue in the log for the final cache.
