Geocache Description:

This cache was inspired by nearby The Old Ranch cache by Tahosa and Sons. This cache also requires some orienteering homework to solve. You would be wise to read up on Tahosa's cache before you try this one.
There is nothing at the main coordinates. FTF gets a pair of movie tickets and more.

Before GPSrs were around pathfinders navigated the woods with only compass, map and possibly a handheld altimeter. Several orienteering skills including a technique called resection were used to locate a hiker on a map. If you would like to test your path-finding skills then I challenge you to do this cache without using your GPS. You will need a 7.5m Topo map, map protractor, pencil and compass. Read the following story and then plot the cache location on your Topo map. Enjoy some more history when you park your jeep.

Once upon a time there was a cacher named n0wae who was driving his trusty jeep all over the 'Big Narrows' Topo map solving some grand Tahosa caches. He took the jeep road north towards Pendergrass Flats and stopped momentary to take a picture out the window. His altimeter read 7760 and he marked the spot as Point Delta.

n0wae was inspired by the history of the area and had so much fun finding Tahosa's caches and exploring the area that he planted one of his own after a short, easy and pleasant hike. n0wae took pictures of the cache location which is on a small map feature to help the pathfinders who follow.

  • Field bearing from the cache to Point Delta is 225°
  • Field bearing from the cache to the top of Mount McConnel (Sec 9) is 304°
