Up a bit of a hill behind a crumbling tower
Dalden Tower is the ancestral home of the queen mother. In 1375, it came into the Bowes family after the marriage of Sir Jordan de Dalden's grand-daughter, Matilda. Despite the fact that the tower has been in ruins for many years, some interesting architectural features such as fireplaces can still be seen.
Along the road in Dalton-le-Dale is the 12th Century norman church of St Andrew where the Lords of Dalden are buried. This church escaped attack from the Roundheads in the 17th Century because soldiers passing through didn't notice it. They must have had a few too many in the Times Inn, just over the road in Dalton-le-Dale ( as have so many others )
There is a parking area just across from the tower.
The cache is a tupperware lunch box wrapped in a black bin liner and contains a beanie dog, some scoobie-doo pencil toppers, a silver plastic buddah from Thailand, a little pottery doll from Chongqing - China, a sewing kit, a Disneyland naughts and crosses travel game and a CD which has someting of interest for Garmin GPS owners.
As a bonus for the first visitor, a bottle of sparkling wine is stashed nearby, the co-ordinates of which are in the log book.
09-03-02 Checked coordinates of wine coz no-one can find it. Don't know how but they were slightly out - may be an error because of the trees. Changed the coordinates in the book so hopefully next person can find wine. Very sorry all who failed to find it. Just in case there's still a problem, if the GPS doesn't take you to a six foot, hollow tree stump - dont bother looking for the wine !!!
