One in a series of caches originating from the beautiful Illinois River Road out of Selma.
The Illinois River Road out of Selma takes you along the beautiful Illinois River Canyon. In fall, winter and spring, this is a magical location you will usually have to yourself. Be forewarned that in summer it becomes a madhouse of people, all flocking to the fabulous swimming holes and camping sites. The road in is paved but very narrow in spots so drive carefully!
The trail to this cache starts out paralleling the road and goes through an area burned in the Biscuit fire. The first section is majorly ugly but once through the short cleared area, the trail opens to beautiful views of the river far below. This is a fairly steep hike (approx. 3 miles round trip) that ends at a nice flat that would make a great overnight camp.
We think this cache got its name from the upcoming stretch of road. When you complete this cache and continue down the road, you'll encounter the narrowest and spookiest part of the road (and its been considerably improved from years past!). The road makes a series of very narrow and almost blind curves that used to require you to sound your horn as you came around to avoid a head on collison. Drive carefully since the road is narrow and the drop off is very high!
