Geocaching HQ Admin: It has come to our attention that this cache was placed in a restricted Wilderness Area. The position of the National Forest Service (who manages this Wilderness) is that "Geoocaching is not permitted in congressionally designated Wilderness Areas per FSM 2320, or in any other nationally designated areas such as national scenic areas, historic or scenic trails."

As the cache is in conflict with NFS policy, this cache listing is being archived. Please retrieve your cache at your earliest convenience.

Geocache Description:

From Ventura, take highway 33 North following the highway to Ojai, then up through Wheeler Gorge. Turn Left on Matilija Rd.

Take Matilija Rd. 4.8 miles to the gate just before the Wilderness Area and park in the dirt lot. From here you have to hike approximately 2 miles up the public access road that follows the Matilija canyon. Stay on the marked trail at all times, as there is some private property that the trail parallels. Also be aware, the trail crosses a creek several times so depending on the time of year you may get your feet wet. This road will become a single track about a mile or so up the canyon. The trail will cross a small tributary then veer to the north. Continue on the trail for about 8 minutes and you will reach a campsite next to the creek. The geocache is behind a nearby rock.
