Geocache Description:

Take a walk through a historic section of Berlin. You will need to locate two historical markers and do some simple math to locate the cache. Cache location has been changed and numbers updated.

We suggest parking at the small park located close to the Congregational church on Worthington Ridge and walking the short distance to the markers. First, find the colonial mile marker found at 41.37.038 072.44.782. This is located on a street corner, at the edge of the sidewalk. Take the number on the mile marker (convert it to regular numbers, not Roman numerals) and add 2, this will be xx. The history behind these mile markers is that they were placed along the roadside in colonial times to let travelers by horseback, stage or foot know how far they were from Hartford. Worthington Ridge was the original Post road that ran from New Haven to Hartford. A HUGE THANKS TO RAD BOOLEY who not only told us about this mile marker but also gave us detailed directions and a picture when we couldn't find it the first time. Now walk to the plaque that marks the site of the old town pump, located at 41.37.071 072.44 788. According to the plaque, take the number of feet southeast that the pump was located and add that to 829. That will be yyy. Final can be found at 41.37.xx1, 072.44.yyy. Please remove and replace carefully. The cache is not inside the playground. If your numbers don't quite match up, the hint says it all. Use stealth, depending on the time of day there could be muggles around. Do this cache during daylight hours only. As an added note, if anyone is interested in these mile markers, we have caches at ones in Bristol, Plymouth and Plainville. If you know of any others in the area, let us know.
