The Deadly Sins are a series of caches to help you regain a part
of your lost soul. What’s that, you ask? You didn’t
realize you were missing a piece? Sorry to inform that you are, but
help is close at hand. Whether you admit it or not (and you can, if
you want, in the logbook or online log), I believe we have all
experienced at least one of these sins in the process of geocaching
(for some of us, perhaps more than one. Not that I know anything
about that).
Wrath
Almost surprisingly, many things in geocaching bring out the
worst in people. From differences in how to play the game and flame
wars across the internet boards to mind numbing puzzle hidden
across the landscape. Even seeing a lamp post cache hidden in the
nearby WalMart make people angry. Hey, this very cache series may
invoke wrath from someone.
Now, the cache itself has nothing specifically to do with wrath,
but maybe taking a walk in the woods with some nice scenic views
may be calming to the angry cacher.
About the cache:
A cache hidden up on South Mountain in Berlin. Recommended
parking within Hubbard Park, at N41° 33.595 W72° 49.482. Do not
block the gate area. Hike up the road to the "notch" at N41° 33.595
W72° 49.482 and follow the pink flagged, rough trail up the
mountain. Alternate parking can be found at a pulloff on Rt.71, N41
33.632 W072 48.680 (Identical parking for The Shaft), and walk the
300 yards North to the blue trail. Follow the blue to the little
used red trail described in 'Logarithm' and just follow the red up
to the cache, and enjoy the multiple view points. Be careful, most
of the red blazes are non-existent, so you may end up backtracking
or bushwhacking. Some of the views near GZ seem to be party areas,
but the cache hiding spot seems to be hidden enough away.
Update 4/4/10: Please note that the "Pink Flagged" trail
seems to have fallen to the wayside as far as the Park managers are
concerned. The trail that existed in 2008 is overgrown and only a
few of the trail flags are left. The cache is still accessible from
within the park, just note that it will feel like an uphill
bushwhack for a majority of the approach.
Each of the Deadly Sins has a code on the inside front cover
of the logbook and on the inside cover of the cache container. You
must take note of the code to truly become
Virtuous and retrieve the part of your soul that is
lost.
