A “Vila” Romana de Torre de Palma , Monumento Nacional, situa-se a cerca de 5 Km de Monforte.
         Trata-se de uma vasta “Villa” Rústica onde uma poderosa família romana, os “Basilli”, construíram uma sumptuosa residência fixando-se aí, de modo permanente. Exploravam um vasto latifúndio que incluía lagares, celeiros e outras dependências agrícolas.
           A entrada principal fazia-se através da sala de recepção, o “tablium”, onde se encontrava o célebre mosaico das Musas.
         Possuíam também termas de certa magnificência situadas um pouco a oeste da “Villa”, formando um edifício independente.
         A norte encontram-se as ruínas da Basílica Paleo-Cristã, provavelmente datada do séc. IV,  onde se pode observar um Baptistério em forma de Cruz de Lorena, com dois lanços opostos de quatro degraus, considerado como um dos mais raros da Península Ibérica, só com similares na Palestina e no Norte de Africa.
           

   The Roman Ruins of Torre de Palma are situated about 5km from Monforte.
          Torre de Palma is an important archaeological site and is classified as a National Monument.
          They consist of a large “Villa Rustica”, where a powerful Roman family, the Basilli, build a sumptuous residence. They cultivated a large estate including olive presses, barns and other agricultural building.
          The main entry to the house was through the reception hall (Tablinum) where the famous “Musas” mosaic was found.
           There is a Roman bath adjacent the east side of the Villa.
           North of the Villa are the ruins of a Christian basilica with a baptistery which was probably build in the sixth century, has a cross shaped baptismal font with two opposed flights of steps. This font is considered one of the most complexes in the Iberian Peninsula.
