Geocache Description:

Please read the logs below before attempting this cache.

This cache was created while researching the history of Stroudwater River and is located near the site of the old mill..

The dam here was built in 1850 to float logs down the Stroudwater River to the Fore River. The mill was used for logging and grist mill operations. The dam was later expanded in the early 1900s for ice harvesting and the mill was replaced with the Canoe Club House (which is also now gone) sometime around the turn of the century.

Below the is a scan of an old postcard taken in the early 1900's showing the Canoe Club House.

********************************************************************************************

This cache is for only the most sure footed trekker. Although it is only a few yards from the road, it is a treacherous trek over the rocks. Do not bring young children to this cache! Let them watch from the parking area or the bridge and have the most sure footed member of your team retrieve the cache.

**WARNING**

Use extreme caution and do not attempt this cache alone. If you fall it may be a while before anyone finds you. The drop to the rocks/water is not far, but fairly steep.

Wear sturdy shoes and be sure you are in good health, do not attempt this cache if you are impaired in anyway by physical or chemical limitations.

You may get wet as one member of our team discovered and took a swim in November. (It was darn cold!)
