The natural monument of „Los Órganos“ (The organ pipes) is a unique rock formation Consisting, of thousands of columns, looking like organ pipes in a church. This is one of the most distinctive landmarks of La Gomera.
This natural wonder was built out of volcanic magma. The rare uniformity of the columns is the result of the slowly cooling down of the lava and contacting at the same time. Because of the erosion by the sea the spectacle was getting visible.
The full extent of the wall, of a width of some 660 ft to a height of up to 270 ft, can only be appreciated from the sea side. Some of the individual organ pipes reach a diameter of 3 ft.

El monumento natural de Los Órganos es una formación rocosa única de columnas verticales que parecen un enorme órgano de iglesia; uno de los paisajes más emblemáticos de la isla de La Gomera.
Esta maravilla natural de magma se formó al enfriase la lava, contrayéndose al mismo tiempo. Las columnas son curiosamente uniformes, abruptas y erosionadas por la acción de mar.
La única forma de apreciar su belleza por completo es desde el mar, y mide unos 80 metros de alto por 200 metros de ancho, alcanzando cada columna un grosor de más de un metro.

Das Naturmonument Los Órganos (Die Orgelpfeifen) stellt eine fast senkrechte Felsformation aus gleichförmigen, aufstrebenden Säulen dar. Sie ist in ihrer Art einmalig und gilt als eines der Wahrzeichen von La Gomera.
Dieses Naturwunder wurde aus Magma vulkanischen Ursprungs gebildet. Die Säulen von seltener Gleichmäßigkeit entstanden durch langsames Abkühlen der flüssigen Lava und gleichzeitiges Schrumpfen. Durch die Erosion des Meeres wurden die Säulen im Laufe von Jahrmillionen freigelegt.
In der vollen Größe und Schönheit ist die Säulenwand jedoch nur vom Meer aus zu erkennen. Sie erstreckt sich über eine Breite von ca. 200 m und eine Höhe von 80 m, wobei einzelne Orgelpfeifen einen Durchmesser von bis zu einem Meter erreichen.
