The 8th installment in "The Boys Of Summer Series" revolves around not only two former big leaguers, but also the rich history of baseball in Keokuk, IA.
Waypoint #1 will take you to the final resting place of Jeremiah "Jerry" Harrington. Jerry played catcher for 3 years with the Cincinnati Red Legs and also 1 more with Louisville Colonels. Known for his defense, Jerry is widely thought to be the first catcher to throw to 2nd base while still in a crouched position. Waypoint #2 will take you to the final resting place of Ralph Bell. Ralph was a relief pitcher for the Chicago White Sox for 3 games. Though he didn't have much success at the big league level, it is still quite an accomplishment for a kid from Kahoka, MO.

Waypoint #3 will take you to the former location of Home Plate at Joyce Park, which housed minor league and semi-pro teams for decades. Two of the players that played here were Roger Maris and Tim McCarver.

This will take you to a city park with an amazing view of the river. This location is also very close to where the Keokuk Westerns played in 1875 in the National Association, which became the National League in 1876. The Westerns disbanned after only 13 games, but Keokuk still had a major league team for a while.
