The Green County Barn Quilts project started in 2008, and by the end of 2010 the 100th barn quilt was installed. Barn quilts are painted wooden squares (designed like one block of a real quilt pattern), generally 8 x 8 feet in size. Some are located on "working" barns, and others are displayed on "retired" barns. It's not as challenging as geocaching, but hunting for the barn quilt locations is a true adventure in experiencing the roads less traveled of the Green County countryside.
The farm was purchased by Margaret Schmidt in 1998. It was originally a dairy barn. The current owner milked Jersey cattle, until 2003. After that, the barn was used for Rambouillet sheep-a dual purpose wool/meat breed. The farmhouse was occupied by the owner until 2009 when it was redesigned for quilting groups as a small group workspace. This Barn Quilt is called Star Spin.
