The geologic highlight of this cache are numerous glacial striations scarring (or beautifying?) the rocks at Rosario Beach Park. These markings were etched about 10,000 years ago during the Vashon Age glacial period. During this time the Puget Sound was covered with over a mile of ice. Pay particular attention to near-horizontal marks in the outcrop located near the Rosario Park gate.
The rocks of this outcrop, and the rest of Rosario Park, comprise an "ophiolite" assemblage, which are oceanic crustal rocks that have been scraped up onto the continent during subduction of the Juan De Fuca plate beneath the North American Plate. Imagine, rocks that originated beneath thousands of feet of ocean, got shoved up on the continent and then were subsequently covered with thousands of feet of ice!!
The cache is a normal size tupperware container wrapped in black plastic. Trinkets, Geocoin #62, and some geology themed items were placed inside. Enjoy
