Geocache Description:

Virtual cache located at the top of Driskill Mountain, Louisiana's highest point.

Driskill Mountain is located in rural, north Louisiana. About 11 miles south of Arcadia, the famed town where outlaw-couple Bonnie & Clyde were killed, Driskill Mountain towers at 535 feet above sea-level.

The hike to the summit is about 1 mile from the parking area, Mt. Zion Independent Presbyterian Church. The church is a red building next to the Driskill Cemetary. Restrooms are available next to the church as well. Just follow the dirt road behind the church, past the radio antenna, and past the big metal gate. A sign will point to the summit about a half mile down the road, but stay on the main dirt road until that sign. The trail goes on to the summit.

A small rock cairn marks the summit, and a metal box contains a log book and various business cards of past visitors. The box and log book belong to the Driskill family, that is the reason this cache is marked as a virtual cache. The land itself also belongs to the Driskills but is open to walk-in visitors.

Please post a picture of yourself similar to the one listed with the cache to show that you've actually made the wearisome trek to the highest peak in Louisiana.

Have fun, enjoy the view, Louisiana's landscape doesn't offer very many such views.

UPDATE 6/5/03

I have contacted Mrs. Bowman, a very kind lady, and she has confirmed that Driskill Mountain is indeed open to walk-in visitors. The trail should be fairly well marked, and as long as you stay on or near the trail, you won't be trespassing on any private land. Enjoy the hike!
