Remember the old Bing Crosby/Louis Armstrong song, "Gone Fishin',
There's No Sign Upon the Door, Gone Fishin', Ain't a Comin' Back No
More"? I thought of the idea for this cache last year after going
through all of my Dad's old fishing stuff -- a 90 year collection,
and at the same time that song started going through my head. Not
long after I passed this river/fishing access area and thought,
"that would be a great place for a fishing theme cache". My Dad
took me fishing with him regularly, almost from the time I could
walk. Mom and my sister were frequently with us too. Most of the
time this was either in an old aluminum boat with a 5 hp Sea King
motor, or a slightly larger, newer, fiber glass boat with a "big"
Johnson 10 hp motor. We always trolled for trout or kokanee salmon.
When he "really" wanted to fish he usually went off by himself fly
fishing, finding some remote stream or nice river. I always wanted
to go but I was a teen ager before he would take me with him. I was
the only other person in our small family fascinated by fly
fishing. He kept telling me he really couldn't teach me how to fly
fish, he had to learn on his own, and so would I. But finally,
shortly before I left home he took me on a hiking/camping trip,
gave me some basic instruction, and let me try his rod. Later I
took a couple of real lessons and today it's my favorite kind of
fishing. Some of the stuff I put in this cache was his and is old,
other things are new. There is a variety of fishing gear,
everything from lake trolling to fly fishing. PLEASE do not put
anything into this cache that is not related to fishing, I would
rather you take something and leave nothing. The cache is already
stuffed full so if you leave anything please take something. You
will find it difficult to sign the log and trade from the place
where you must do it. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE CACHE FROM WHERE IT
IS. SIMPLY TAKE THE TOP OFF. IT TOOK A LOT OF WORK TO PUT IT WHERE
IT IS. Bring your rod and flies and enjoy both the scenery and the
fishing.
April 15, 2007 I HAVE LISTED THIS CACHE AS DANGEROUS BECAUSE
THE PAST TWO CACHERS HAVE NOTICED BEAR TRACKS. ONE PERSON THOUGHT
THEY WERE GRIZZLY TRACKS. JUST KEEP YOUR EYES AND EARS OPEN, USE
SOME CAUTION AND PERHAPS INVEST IN SOME BEAR SPRAY JUST IN
CASE.
ADDENDA: The tracks were identified by experts to be Black
Bear tracks, still, use precautions.
