Down By The Sound Traditional Cache
HaLiJuSaPa: We were here today enjoying the cool breeze and sad to say this was muggled again! [:(!]
So we're giving up on this one. We encourage others to put a hide here, and we plan to have a new one shortly at the Bird Sanctuary across the street.

Wide-open New Rochelle city park with great views of the Long Island Sound area! There is also a small nature trail/bird sanctuary across the street from the park to the left called Davenport Neck Bird Sanctuary.
We had a hide in this scenic park last year, but a storm washed it away and made the hiding area unsafe. But we really love this spot and want to share it with others, so we're trying a new hide in a different, safer area.
Davenport Park is not well known outside of New Rochelle. Besides the great view (see the picture), there are also some neat rock formations near the shore reminiscent of a mini version of the coast of Maine or northern California.
When you first enter it appears that everything except walking in to enjoy the view is restricted (based on the signs). However, we think it's rarely enforced; we always see people fishing, having picnics on the grass, lying down on the rocks, kicking soccer balls, and flying kites (which actually is allowed and we do often here).
However, they are strict about not allowing dogs and parking regulations are sometimes enforced. Only New Rochelle residents with a permit can park at the lot. If you are simply going to get the cache and come back you should be OK (especially in the colder months), but you should be more cautious on say summer weekends. The nearest "legal to all" parking is on Church St. (park where other cars are parked, some parts of the street are illegal to park). You then walk down this street until it ends and turn right on Davenport Ave. to the park. The views and rocks are well worth the walk from here (however, watch out, the geese LOVE the view too, to put it mildly)!
Container is a small white pill bottle. Micro is log-only and a pen is provided with the cache in a ziploc bag. Please use stealth and rehide exactly as found so this cache can stay for future finders to enjoy! Also note that while the public phone is available year round, the bathrooms and water fountain are closed during the "off-season". Have fun!
