Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you to Dykeman Springs, also commonly known as Indian Springs, or to locals -- the duck pond. This is the area where Edward Shippen, founder of Shippensburg, encountered the "locals" before founding the town. This spring was home of a settlement of Delaware Indians. This area was also used as an encampment location for Confederate General Ewell's troops during the Civil War in June of 1863. The house across the spring (not the one that is "in" the spring), built in the mid 1800s, was the home of the Dykeman family, and is listed on the National Historic Register. However, this pre-civil war era mansion is now a Bed and Breakfast, and is private land. Please do not cross the white fence (which shouldn't be a problem, as it is on the other side of the spring from the cache).

The cache contains only a log sheet, please bring your own pen.

FTF will be entered into a drawing to win a $25.00 gift card to Best Buy! (drawing will be made up of the FTFs for all of the 8 "Cache the History of Shippensburg" caches!)
