The Virginia State Parks Birding Adventure series ended on December 15, 2014. However, the park has adopted this cache so it will still be available to find. Prizes are no longer available for this series. Look for our new series, Virginia State Parks Civil War Adventure.
The terrain and difficulty are rated high due to the length of the hike or bike. I recommend bringing plenty of water, a snack, bug repellant, sunscreen, camera, map, compass, spare batteries, cell phone and a sense of adventure. Cache is in a highly sensitive area for nature and history as well. Please be respectful of the area, stick to the trails and NO BUSHWACKING! False Cape State Park is located in the southeast corner of Virginia. False Cape State Park is located on a barrier spit nestled between Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and North Carolina. Parking is available at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. It is part of what is often referred to “Virginia’s Outer Banks”. Access to False Cape State Park is obtained by hiking or bicycling through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge or by boating across Back Bay.
Take time to observe the marshes of Back Bay in the chance to catch a glimpse of the Virginia Rail. Depending on the time of year will determine the view and the possibilities of seeing many species of birds and wildlife.
