Geocache Description:

A cache to celebrate Marlow’s Brewing heritage.

The cache is a short walk from the Three Horseshoes pub, but you will have to visit Marlow's brewery sites first to get the coordinates

Brewing in Marlow dates back over 250 years. Wethered's Brewery is thought to have been built in 1758, subsequently transferring from the east to the west side of the High Street where it had its own artesian well.

Long a major employer and famed for the quality of its products, Wethered’s was taken over by Strongs after the Second World War, then absorbed by Whitbreads and sadly closed in 1988. Plans to turn the brewery site into a shopping centre were overturned, and instead the site was developed for housing, retaining some of the original buildings.

Beer making in Marlow returned when Tim Coombes and Mark Gloyens, who both went to Marlow’s Sir William Borlase’s School, recommenced brewing in 1993 on a small scale. They originally tried to acquire part of the original brewery site, but when this failed they set up the Rebellion Beer Company in a small industrial unit in Marlow Bottom. In 1997 they bought the development brewery equipment that Courage had been using at their Reading plant, and in 1999 moved the brewery a short distance to their current premises at Bencombe Farm. More information about the brewery can be found at http://www.rebellionbeer.co.uk/

The cache is not far from the Three Horseshoes pub, and the above co-ordinates are for its car park. But you will have to visit two other waypoints first to work out the co-ordinates - one at the original Wethered’s brewery site, then at the new Rebellion brewery. The final clue can be found on the post box outside the Three Horeshoes.

It’s a four mile round trip, so you will probably want to use a car or bikes to get around.

The cache can be found at N 51° 35.A(F-G)(B+C+D+G+H) W 000° 45.(J-H)(B-G)A
