Andromeda Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Hugh Foundit: The clue to the Milky was washed away and since others in the series have been washed away as well, I'm archiving this cache.

Thanks to all who searched for this cache and the Milky Way.

Geocache Description:

Second in a series of four Along the Milky Way, Andromeda is a fall constellation. Although Andromeda is renowned for the great galaxy that resides within the constellation, its stars are not very bright. It is easy to find, however, located south of a group of stars that make up a W in the northeastern sky during October through December. This W is the thrown of Cassiopeia, Andromeda’s mother the queen of Ethiopia.

The Andromeda Galaxy M31 is the closest galaxy to our own Milky Way. This spiral galaxy is the most distant object visible with the naked eye. Far from city lights, it appears as a small q-tip size object directly overhead from late October to late November at 9:00pm. The light that you see from the Andromeda Galaxy left that galaxy 2.5 million light years ago. In other words, you are looking at this galaxy, as it appeared long before man walked on this planet! Using a small telescope or binoculars will bring into view its two neighboring galaxies M32 and M110. These two galaxies are even more distant and their light more diffuse.

This is a two stage multi-cache – the final being a small Rubbermaid container that only has a log book and pen inside. Small objects may be left behind. The walk to the path leading into the woods can be rated at 1.5 for terrain.
