Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the above coordinates.

In fact, if you go to those coordinates, you will likely be struck by car, so don't do that.

Since it's founding in 1843 through the mid-1900s, the city of St. Joseph was contained relatively close to the Missouri River. Highway 169 ran from what is now Metcalf Avenue in Kansas City, northward through Smithville and Gower, passing within a couple miles of St. Joseph to the west, and then on to the northeast through small towns like Union Star, King City and Stanberry and on up through Iowa and Minneapolis, ending at Mille Lacs ("Thousand Lakes" in French) Lake in Minnesota. Then St. Joseph experienced growth from about the 1950s through today that absorbed a 5.8-mile stretch of Highway 169. This stretch became known as "The Belt" or "The Belt Highway". The Belt is now the primary commercial thoroughfare for St. Joseph, from where Highway 169 crosses I-29 at the south end of the city to where it later merges into Highway 59 and crosses I-29 at the north end of the city. The total length of the Belt is now 9.8 miles.

This cache is one of five caches in the "Explore St. Joe" series. Information at this cache can be used to help find "Explore St. Joe - Oriental Knolls - GC25AYY". To determine the exact coordinates of this cache, you will need to find the letters pictured below. All of them can be found at well-known businesses and sites along the Belt. Here's how you determine the final coordinates:

1) Find each of the letters along the Belt Highway. Make note of the latitude & longitude of each location.

2) Number them 0-9 in order of their location from north to south, with 0 being the northern-most location and 9 being the southern-most.

3) Replace the letters listed in the following coordinates with it's associated number. The cache is at:
N39 4D.ANS
W94 4G.YLR

4) Find that cache!
