Geocache Description:

medium rubbermaid box PLEASE REPLACE AND COVER THE CACHE UP SO ITS NOT VISIBLE FROM THE TRAIL. Lost the last cache that way.

The Litzenberg Memorial Woods is the site of the McKinnis family's homestead. The structures in the park were originally built in 1847 for Charles McKinnis and his family. The family had originally lived in a log cabin built somewhere on the property, however once the family became more prosperous, the house was built. The house is an example of vernacular Greek Revival popular to this time period. The park was interesting from the get go and seemed to be a good place to bring the family. Litzenberg Memorial Woods is run by the Hancock County Historical Society, and the people who work at the park dress and act like people from the period.
