Geocache Description:

A cache and dash type of cache located near the junction of Highway 12 and Highway 261.

Please BEWARE! This cache is located very close to busy Highway 12 in a turnout area. Please keep a careful eye on children and pets.

Delaney is the name for the grain elevator located just across the road on Highway 261. The name originally came from the landowner Berton Delaney who owned several sections of land right around this area, at least until 1933 which is the year I pulled the property records from. The grain elevator is located on the northeast corner of section 19, T 12 N, R 39 E. A Henry Delaney also owned land around here abutting Berton's land. At one time a rail line went through along the Tucannon River and right by the elevator but now all that is left is the small section of track near the elevator.

The area directly surrounding the elevator is very busy during the months of July and August with wheat harvest so I wouldn't advise going around there then. During my teenage years I drove wheat truck around the area, taking my loads to Delaney elevator. It was one of the most enjoyable jobs I've ever had.
