Geocache Description:

Three miles up Adams Canyon's north ridge. The trail is easy to see some of the time and you find your own way in some areas. The trail is 2.8 miles which includes 5000 feet vertical with most up and some down. The cache is a cement and wood and tin roof hunting cabin built on public ground and left open for anyone able to climb 5000 feet to visit.

The cabin is 4000 feet above the trail head. The trail starts in a dirt parking area just above Highway 89 in Layton at N41 03.973', W111 54.606'. The trail starts on the north side of a fence that surrounds a irrigation reservoir. After ascending the trail to the top of the bench a trail heads into the canyon which leads up to a fantastic waterfall. Don't go that way! Your trail heads straight up the ridge. When you get to the first large rock (can be seen from miles away) you have to climb down the other side to keep going up the ridge and behind the north side of the next big rock (also seen from miles away). You will round the next big rock (you know how big) on the left side before you know you did. You will know you did when you come back down. Keep following the trail around to your left (not into the next canyon though) until you arrive at a spring where you can refill your canteen. The spring is located at N41 04.490', W111 52.591'. After reaching the spring you will be heading southeast to the pass seen in the direction of the cabin location head for the notch on the left side. The trail here is good some times and not at other times. This cabin is not locked. It has a visitor's log book inside. There are supplies inside that are maintained by whoever visits. We leave paper towels, matches, pencils, canned foods etc… when we visit. There is a propane stove and lantern. Usually propane is available. There is a small wood stove and a table a three bunk bed and a loft. According to the log book people visit year around. There is a great view from here and we have spent the night before. The key is bring extra supplies and leave what you don't use for the next group. Also burn or carry out your trash.
