This cache is part of a series of caches placed by New Mexico
Geocachers in a cooperative effort with New Mexico State Parks
(NMSP) to celebrate New Mexico State Parks 75th Anniversary. A
cache has been placed in each of the 34 state parks around New
Mexico.
Trout fishing is excellent and wildlife abundant at this park,
which is part of the 33,116 acre Colin Neblett Wildlife area.
Hikers and anglers enjoy the park’s 8 mile section of river through
Cimarron Canyon, known for its towering granite cliffs, called the
Palisades.
Be sure to check the following points of interest while you are
there.
* Cimarron Canyon is known for its 300 foot towering Crenellated
Granite cliffs called the Palisades.
* “Special Trout Waters”. A 1.5 mile stretch of the Cimarron
River with stringent bait and limit restrictions.
* The park’s most popular trail the Clear Creek Trail, is a 7
mile round trip, several water falls and excellent wildlife
opportunities.
* The Maverick Trails, which lead to the base of Touch Me Not
Mountain.
* The Tolby Trails, which lead to the Tolby Meadows which is an
excellent area to view wildlife. Elevation ranges from about 8000’
to 10,500’.
Since this cache is located within the State Park system, a Day
Use or Annual Pass, which can be obtained from any State Park, will
be required.
