*NOTE: The Cache
description was updated on 10/25/08
I have placed five caches in Devil's Canyon, in the Chatsworth
area.
Devil's Wash
Devil's Diversion
Devil's Oak
Devil's Gate
Devil's Canyon
Please see
Devil's Canyon for Additional Waypoints, and trail Map.
There are several ways into the canyon, but things have become
difficult because of a construction project at the head of the
canyon that has the traditional way blocked. The best way now is to
park on Poema Place, west of Topanga Canyon Blvd, just before the
guard shack to Indian Hills Estates. Check in with the guard and
they will allow you access. Follow the green line on the west side
of the road to the trail head. At the trailhead, you want to go
down to the right, not up to the left.
Once in the canyon, you will go south about 100 feet to pickup
Devil's Wash, and then north for the others. The last cache is a
little over 3 miles from the car and about 400' in a very gradual
elevation gain. Trail is wide and good the whole way with several
creek crossings. Parts of the trail are through a wide dry wash, so
the middle of a rainstorm may not be the best time to do this.
WATCH OUT FOR POISON OAK. It
is abundant. There is none on, or over the trail, and there is none
anywhere near the caches. If this changes, please let me know.
There is no reason for anyone to come into contact with it, as long
as they keep their eyes open.
Devil's Oak is a cammoed, medium sized spice container. Bring a
pen. GPS signal is iffy, but it should be obvious as to which oak
this is named after.
