Famous Five - Llyn Efyrnwy Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

The Car Parking co-ords for the micro are N52* 45.935 W003* 27.164 ie. the Vyrnwy Hotel Car Park where they have agreed for us to park. And the parking co-ords for the multi are N52* 48.277 W003* 32.317.

This cache is part of a series of five famous lakes/reservoirs located in North Wales. These multi-caches comprise of a 35mm film canister leading onto a regular sized ammo box. Each box contains a clue, leading to a sixth lake which is not quite so famous but nevertheless well worth a visit.
The co-ords given above are for the micro cache, in the micro cache you will find the co-ords for the regular sized plastic box.
Llyn Efyrnwy better known as Lake Vyrnwy is a man made lake built in the 1880s to supply Liverpool with drinking water. There were about 1000 men employed in the construction of the dam. On completion it took 12 months for the lake to fill. The dam is a grade 1 listed building, holding back some 13,000 million gallons of water. The Lake is 4.75 miles long and 0.5 miles wide and has been a favourite fishing venue since the early days of the dam. With the excellent game shooting moors surrounding the lake a sporting hotel was constructed in the 1890s catering for both sports. Today with it's magnificent views of the lake the hotel caters for numerous sports as well as the shooting and fishing. Bar meals and liquid refreshment can be obtained in the Tavern Bar at a reasonable cost, whilst enjoying the wonderful views of the lake. The visitors centre is well worth a visit for more local information.
From the Car Park walk past the Tavern Bar and HeliPad onto the moors to find the micro.
Note, the final cache here is at the other end of the reservoir, from suggested parking follow the marked path, just before the footbridge ascend up the valley for not only the cache, but a great view of the waterfalls. Whilst doing this cache, make the effort to do the short circular walk of caches.
The original contents of the cache were:
Dale Earnhardt TB,
Watch Strap,
Mini Padlock,
Mini Stapler,
Fire Caps,
Eye Glasses Retainer,
Bike Bell and
a baseball.
Good luck, and enjoy the area.
Please be extra careful when retrieving the final cache as it is a popular spot.
