#Background:
It should have been a simple task. Geocache 'GCGHRC' aka Alternative Alton persisted to stay hidden. Why? I did not know. As if possessed, it kept shedding it's cover - it had laid at the base of the Churnet Valley for over a year and a half and had been the black sheep in the arsenal of my caches. Everyone had found it so easy to find...
#
It needed to be removed.
#Main:
I felt the need to rehide it in the local area. If only I had known the trouble that it would cause...
#
I recommend you park at Ramblers' Retreat:
#Co-Ord
N52°59.150
W001°54.531
-It is the only feasible way to approach the location.
#
It is situated in the vicinity of the 'Hex' tree - the oak tree tied up in chains which forms the centrepiece of Alton Towers' ride of the same name.
#
For those that don't know, a curse was (supposedly) put on this tree by a witch. As punishment to the Earl of Alton Towers for treating her badly, everytime a branch fell off the tree, a member of his family would die. In fear, the Earl had the Oak chained up so no branches would ever fall...
#
On 01/04/05, something didn't want me to hide the cache there. My GPS failed as I was placing the ammo box. It is now broken and needs replacing.
#Final:
I recommend this only to the bravest cachers - the terrain is uneven and can be very muddy. The location is very eerie; faint screams were heard at the time of my visit.
#
Always be discreet, rehide the cache well and remember...
...Something or Someone doesn't want you there...
