Welcome to the BEACH COMBER'S CACHE! (pronounced 'ka-SHAY' by
the way).
We buy, sell, and trade interesting local beach finds. Our
current inventory includes seashells, seaglass, coral, rocks,
suntan lotion, and bottled water.
This is a fun cache to get the full 'beach experience'
especially for out-of-towners. In addition to the short walk along
the beach, there are tide pools and then a panaramic view of the
beach when you get to the cache. There are usually lots of surfers
to watch. And foreign currency is gladly accepted!
Park at Linda Mar Beach (between Crespi and Linda Mar Blvd) and
beach comb your way over to the cache. Be sure to find something
interesting on the beach to trade or donate to the cache!
You can choose the 'high road' or 'low road' to get to the
cache:
"High Road" (terrain 3.5) - For the goal-oriented. This is a
small foot trail you walk along the trail on top of the cliff that
leads you to the cache. Easily pick up the trail at several spots
up to a more challenging crevice entrance at these coordinates: 37°
36.262N, 122° 29.981W.
"Low Road" (terrain 3.0) - For the explorer. This will take you
along the rocks and tide pools at the base of the cliff. Lots of
neat things to see. When you get close to the cache, you can climb
up to it. To take this route, just continue at beach level towards
the cache, stay near the cliff bottom for easiest travel. The rocks
start around 37° 36.265N, 122° 30.003W.
The cache is an ammo box hidden under some loose rocks. Please
make sure the cache is well hidden when you are done with it. There
is lots of loose rocks in the area to help you hide it if you need
more. This is a high traffic area, please hide the cache well!
P.S. If you want to explore the tide pools near low tide (which
is always the best), you can use this link to give you an
approximate tide table. Note that the table is for a beach about 8
miles North, so the times will be slightly off:

** UPDATE 7/30/05 **
Went to go check out the cache. Didn't see any bees, but indeed
there has been some land movement over the last two years and the
bottom half of the rock that originally hid the cache appears to
have fallen off exposing the cache to mugglers. (oops!) We replaced
the cache, but now the last 10-20' approach to the cache is a
little steeper. Easiest access is to go up and over the big rocks,
but you can still approach directly if you watch your
footing.
** UPDATE 3/27/11 ** Cache replaced with new one. Recent
geo-movement hid the original cache. The geo-movement also makes
the climb to the cache a bit more tricky. Will up the terrain
0.5.
NOTE: Although tempting, DO NOT attempt to
climb or descend the hill above this cache to get to another nearby
cache (e.g., "Pacifica Lookout"). Go back towards the highway and
walk around the hill on one of the many paths. The hill is very
steep and slippery!
