Bigfoot Sighting Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Nomex: Hi
As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm temporarily archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists. Just contact us when you have the cache repaired, [RED]and assuming it still meets the guidelines[/RED], we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Don't hesitate to email me via the link on my Profile if you have any questions. [red]Please be sure to include the cache name and GC Code, or better yet, the URL of the cache page.[/red]

Thanks for your cooperation!

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Multiple sightings of Bigfoot have been reported in Santa Cruz, California. These creatures are said to be elusive; to be heavily built, apelike, hairy, and smelly with facial features resembling those of a human being; and to communicate by grunts. Did these people really see Bigfoot? We'll leave it up to you to decide!

NOTE: The storyline behind this cache was selected for entertainment. As well, since geocaching is a family-oriented sport, please do not leave any items that are inappropriate. Let’s make this a fun and safe cache for everyone to enjoy!

~*~ THE QUESTIONS ~*~

You will need to find the answers to the following questions within the museum located at the posted coordinates. Admission to the museum is FREE! See "Important Cache Information" above for museum hours. While you're visiting feel free to chat with Michael, the owner, and let him know that you're geocaching.

You will need to find the answers for the red underlined letters below [A-J]:

37°AB.CDE North
122°FG.HIJ West
  • A = Locate the newpaper article on the wall titled "Campers Claim They Saw 'Big Foot'". Find Dave Wilhelm's age and multiply the first digit by the second digit of his age (e.g., if his age was 32, then you would multiply 3 x 2 for an answer of 6) ;
  • B = Same as for 'A', find the age of Ben Lawson within the same article titled "Campers Claim They Saw 'Big Foot'". As well, multiply the first digit by the second digit of his age ;
  • C = Locate this display titled "About This Cast". Find the day in October that Pat Graves located the possible Bigfoot footprints near Bluff Creek, California. The answer is the first digit of the day (e.g., if the day was the 15th, the answer would be 1) ;
  • D = This one is even easier. Looking at the same display as used to answer 'C', titled "About This Cast", take the last digit of the year that Pat Graves found the footprint near Bluff Creek ;
  • E = You will need to find this photo of a car parked in front of a building. What is the forth digit of the year that this photo was taken (e.g., if the year was 1984, the answer would be 4) ;
  • FG = Find the South Felton timeline. The answer is the last two digits of the year that President Teddy Roosevelt visited Cowell Big Trees during his "Conservation Tour" (e.g., if the year was 2004, the answer would be 04) ;
  • H = Look up high for a copy of "Weekly World News" with the frontpage caption of "1st Bigfoot Captured". Scientists bagged a creature in Montana that was how many feet tall ;
  • I = You'll see some empty beer bottles on a shelf with a Bigfoot theme. How many beer bottles are there ;
  • J = See the photo on the right? What is the number written within the top right parcel (the parcel is highlighted in red within this photo of a map titled "Map of Tanglewood" - you need to find the original).

NOTE: Once you obtain the coordinates you will need to figure out the best way to get to the cache location. Looking at the Geographic Information System (GIS), your smoothest access point will be to park about 400 feet due East of the final cache coordinates near some fairly new water tanks (not shown on topo maps yet).

You'll learn the signifigance of the location of the final cache location once you find the cache. Put it this way -- you'll probably want to grab this cache during daylight. Only the highly experienced (and crazy) cachers dare go at night

Enjoy the scenary and keep an eye out for some amazing animal tracks -- bobcats, deer, coyotes, mountain lions, and maybe even the elusive Bigfoot!
