Geocache Description:

Located on the McKeags Meadow Trail in Sterling Forest State Park.

This cache has been allocated Permit #117 from Sterling Forest State Park.

Park at the Laurel Pond parking area from
County Route 84.

Trailhead coordinates:
N 41 11.676 W 074 15.153

Walk the trail in a clockwise direction for about one mile. Continuing makes a nice loop hike of 2.2 miles round trip with yellow blazing.

Trail Conference Sterling Forest Trails Map #100 is recommended. The trail can be very wet.

This cache, called Remnants, is placed in memory of the recently disbanded, At Your Own Risk Hiking Club, active for years in the Hudson Valley. Formed in the early ‘80s, members met regularly to hike until the administration, the organization of the newsletter called Risky Business, the hike schedule, and the treasury, devolved onto the shoulders of just a few stalwart folk. For various reasons these dedicated members were unable to continue, and the decision was made to end the formal structure. Remaining funds were divided and donated to the Orange County Land Trust and the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference.

Remnants of the club membership, including charter members, still meet once a month to hike.
